In This Review
Not every big film worked in 2026. Here are the biggest disappointments compared with their budgets.
Indian Films

| The RajaSaab (Prabhas) | ₹400–450 Cr | ₹208 Cr |
| Alpha (Alia Bhatt) | ₹100–150 Cr | ₹98.6 Cr |
| Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Fun on the Run | ₹8–10 Cr | ₹1.32 Cr |
Hollywood Films
| Movie | Budget | Worldwide Gross |
|---|---|---|
| Masters of the Universe | $170–200M | $114M |
| Supergirl | — | $126M |
| Moana (live-action) | $250M | $324M |
| Street Fighter | $82M | $58M (still in release) |
What Went Wrong?
- Weak scripts: Toxic, The RajaSaab and Alpha all drew criticism for their screenplays despite strong stars.
- Huge budgets: even ₹300 crore+ collections cannot recover a budget several times larger.
- Remake fatigue: Moana’s live-action version struggled against love for the animated film.
Figures are approximate, based on trade reports and studio data as of October 2026; films still in cinemas will keep growing.
Conclusion
2026 proved again that stars and budgets cannot replace a good story.
